What days and times are your classes?

Posted by simon on 21 Feb 2008 | Tagged as: Questions & Contact

The beginner’s classes often run on Wednesdays and Sundays, and one-off workshops and Reiki attunements are mostly on the weekend. Each class is different, however, and when the class runs will be worked out depending on what days and times the participants can make. We normally announce new courses on the website and mailing list and will give an idea of the days and times at this point. After people have signed up, we work out when is best for everyone.

ChillOut website is back in the google top ten!

Posted by simon on 04 Feb 2008 | Tagged as: News, Website

After a few weeks of losing our ranking in the world’s most influential search engine, chillout.org.uk has resurfaced as a top result for important keywords relating to our site content, such as ‘massage course edinburgh, learn massage edinburgh, learn reiki edinburgh, chillout, chillout society’ etc. Still only the front page is listed, but i’m hoping this will change in the near future, now that a XML sitemap is available. The wordpress platform with its host of search engine optimisation plugins has to be at least partially responsible for this success, making it easy to set up redirects from old pages (although I did this a little bit too late), link the site together in a meaningful way and optimise the way the site is indexed. Future features include integration with the facebook group (hopefully) and regular updates by the committee, helped along by the email posting abilities of the website. I’ve worked hard on it so I hope it is to your liking ;-)

 ChillOut

ChillOut has been teaching massage since its beginnings many years ago, and massage remains the activity for which we are best known. Zeb Shaw has, for many years, developed the massage courses to suit the way students learned best and allow students to learn an enormous amount of useful applicable techniques and knowledge in a short evening course. None of our courses are certified and the teaching provided is intended to be informative, but we advise our students not to treat anybody without being a insured as a massage therapist and trained in an approved, certified course.

Courses

ChillOut society currently offers three different massage courses.

  • The Beginner’s Massage Course teaches the basics of swedish masage and covers most of the body over 6 weeks.
  • The Intermediate Massage Course takes this much further, teaching advanced therapeutic techniques in an intensive 8-week course. Many of the ‘graduates’ of this course go on to train professionally or help teaching in the society.
  • Indian Head Massage is a very simple, beautiful and relaxing form of massage which we teach in a one-day workshop.

When is your next course?

Posted by simon on 23 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Questions & Contact

Indian head massage and Reiki courses run according to demand. If you wish to do one, please let us know.

Please do not email us asking us when our next massage course is. We run a lot of massage courses in the first term, and a few more during the second term. Join the email list to hear about these when they are starting.

Do you run courses outside term times?

Posted by simon on 23 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Questions & Contact

No. We run courses during university term only. Most things are during the first semester or the early part of the second semester, before exams and dissertations interrupt these activities. We normally run multiple beginners courses in the first term, with one or two more in the second term. Indian Head Massage, Intermediate Massage and Reiki attunements may be in either term.

Are your massage courses certified?

No. The beginner’s massage course and indian head massage course are introductions to the techniques only. Our intermediate massage course teaches you skills well beyond many professional massage courses in Swedish Massage, but all of our teaching is for your personal use only. This is not a professional qualification and ChillOut does not accept any responsibility for the way in which you use what you have learned at our courses. There is no certificate of completion, no qualification, and we offer no guarantee that any of our students are fit to practice.

Do I have to be a member of Edinburgh University or ChillOut society to do a course?

Posted by simon on 23 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Questions & Contact

You do not have to be a member of Edinburgh University to join ChillOut Society, but the Student’s Association insists that we charge members a fee. And if we let people go on courses without being members, we wouldn’t have any members! So yes you must be a member of ChillOut. It costs only £3 to join ChillOut society for life (we never remember to re-charge you)!

How do I get a place on the course?

Posted by simon on 23 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Questions & Contact

Once we announce courses on the email list, you can ask for a place using the email address given in the announcement email. Beginner’s massage courses are started in the first few weeks of each semester and Indian Head Massage would be announced a few weeks before it is planned to run (in either semester). Intermediate massage courses are normally announced towards the end of the first beginner’s course of the year (near the end of the first semester).

If you wish to come on a reiki course, email the reiki organiser to ask if there is likely to be another course soon and register your interest.
