ChillOut has been teaching massage since its beginnings many years ago, and massage remains the activity for which we are best known. Zeb Shaw has, for many years, developed the massage courses to suit the way students learned best and allow students to learn an enormous amount of useful applicable techniques and knowledge in a short evening course. None of our courses are certified and the teaching provided is intended to be informative, but we advise our students not to treat anybody without being a insured as a massage therapist and trained in an approved, certified course.
ChillOut society currently offers three different massage courses.
Please read the detailed pages about the above courses before going to the Questions and Contact section.

Please do not email us asking us when our next massage course is. We run a lot of massage courses in the first term, and a few more during the second term. Join the email list to hear about these when they are starting.

Indian Head Massage is a beautiful, relaxing form of massage based on old Ayurvedic techniques involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face.
Indian Head Massage is used by practitioners to help reduce stress and fatigue, increase mental clarity, and relax and rejuvenate the receiver. A treatment will last between 20 minutes to one hour.
The ChillOut society teaches this in a 6-hour course on a Saturday a couple of times a term. Indian head massage is a beautifully relaxing experience given whilst the client is clothed and seated. No previous experience is needed. The basic skills are easily picked up in one afternoon and perfected through practice.
The workshop leaves you confident, relaxed and peaceful. The ideal antidote to the build up of exam stress.
Cost: EUSA £15, Concessions £20, Real people £25.
If the class is at capacity the cost may go down, it will not be higher than
this.
Next Course: Join our email list or see our blog. We normally do a course each term. We can’t predict when we are going to run the next one. We don’t run these over the holidays.
Contact details: Contact us through the massage course contact form to enquire about or join the course.

Welcome to the ChillOut Society where you can learn various forms of massage, healing, chilling and living life to the full!
We’re a chilled out group of people at Edinburgh University (Scotland) whose sole pursuit is that of relaxation. We teach and share swedish massage, therapeutic massage, Indian Head Massage, Reiki, EFT etc. as well as good food, good hugs and good friendship. The ChillOut Committee are normally a great bunch to hang out with and open to new people and new ideas.
Most of the expertise and activity of ChillOut Society currently revolves around our massage courses. We teach different courses, including a one-day Indian Head Massage course, a 6-week beginner’s Swedish Massage Course and an intensive 8-week intermediate course in therapeutic & remedial massage techniques for students who wish to learn some of the tricks used by advanced practitioners without paying the full price for a professional course.
We run Reiki attunements one or twice a year for those who wish to learn Reiki, and you can receive healing on a drop-in basis on Thursdays at Tollcross healing group, all year round (not organised by ChillOut, but many of us go there). The ChillOut healer’s group usually meets weekly- join the Reiki email list if you would like to swap healings with other healers.
The events massage service is available for societies, charities and private functions in Edinburgh doing seated shoulder massage (or even Reiki) - at ceilidhs, balls, fundraising events, parties, club nights- its all been done. Find out more…
We run retreats in Roslin Castle a few times a year. EFT, timeline therapy, reflexology and hypnotherapy and many other workshops are all possible, depending on interest.
Most of the courses take place at Teviot House, Bristo Square, Edinburgh. To take part in the courses, you need to be a member of the ChillOut Society. The cost of joining is £3 for the year.
